Earlier this year, Sligo Business Improvement District (BID) nominated the town in the Bank of Ireland Enterprising Town Awards 2017, a national competition launched to find the country’s most enterprising town, and were subsequently delighted to make it through to the finals.
Working closely with Sligo County Council, Sligo LEO, IT Sligo, Sligo LEADER, IDA, Sligo Chamber, Sligo Tourism, Sligo Tidy Towns, SWIBN and Sligo Food Trail, the judges had a formal welcome and presentation at City Hall. Following the presentation was an 80 minute walkabout of the town centre featuring the Model Niland, the new dedicated coach park, the recently renovated and newly opened Andersons Grill and Bar, The Embankment Building (old ESB) on Thomas St and Castle St and finishing with a second presentation in the Building Block, Bridge St.
It was here that the judges met representatives and members of the IDA, IT Sligo, Tidy Towns and Sligo Food Trail and were given a clear picture of why Sligo was a worthy contender in this competition.
Sligo demonstrated the 4 C’s of – cooperation, collaboration, connectivity and community. We look forward to the judge’s decision and result in November. Congratulations also to the other Sligo finalists Tubbercurry and Strandhill.
