Recent Tourism Event At Lissadell House

While those of us in Sligo know all about the wonders of our town and countryside, it's vitally important to the locally economy that those in the national tourism industry know it too. This is why the recent success of the event held at Lissadell House presents a hopeful way forward for bringing more tour groups and operators to Sligo.

Organised and managed by the owners of Lissadell House, Constance Cassidy and Eddie Walsh, and supported by Sligo BID, Sligo County Council and Sligo Tourism, the event brought some of the most prominent Irish tour operators to Yeats Country. Once arrived they were treated to a full-day showcase of the many tourism offerings that Sligo has to offer. In attendance were hotels, tour guides, restaurants and other leisure activities showcasing the diverse range of entertainment available in Sligo - from our award winning restaurants to opportunities for hiking, walking, shopping and surfing.

Once the showcasing of Sligo businesses finished, Constance and Eddie invited all back to the Main House where the networking continued. As Lissadell House was the family home of Countess Markeviciez, who fought in the 1916 Rising, as well as often hosting WB Yeats there was much for the tour operators to learn and experience about Sligo.

With great feedback from the tour operators in attendance, the plan is to host another showcase in February of next year. This will bring in more tour operators, improving their awareness of Sligo as a key destination in the North West. With our great tourism and cultural offerings, this can only lead to an increase in the amount of tourists and groups visiting the town and county, with more local spending in our shops, restaurants, hotels and other businesses.
