Yeats Day 2015

Welcome to Yeats Day 2015
 
Yeats Day is a celebration of Nobel Prize Winning Poet WB Yeats.  It takes place on an annual basis on the poets birthday – June 13th.   This year, Yeats Day will become a 4 day festival, commencing with The Nobel Dinner to celebrate the Nobel Prize-winning poet. It will be followed by three days of poetry, music, song, drama, visual art, craft and will include a very special poet’s cake.
 
Yeats at One
Everyone is welcome – all year – at Hargadons Pub in Sligo to read a Yeats poem of your choice to honour this special birthday.  Come and join in: 1pm every day (6pm on Sundays). www.hargadons.com
 
The Harp Festival of Moons
During 2015, 13 harp recitals will take place on every full moon, including the Blue Moon in July. The event celebrates Yeats’ love of the moon and his key role in choosing the harp as the emblem on Irish coins.

Yeats on the Wild Atlantic Way
Sligo drama company Blue Raincoat will perform three Yeats plays in spectacular outdoor Sligo locations. This follows the success of performances on Knocknarea and Cummeen Strand. www.blueraincoat.com.
 
SÓ Sligo Food Festival
The SÓ Sligo Food Festival will take place from June 10th – 14th. It will organize the Yeats Day Wine and Sausage Trail. www.sosligo.ie.
 
No Crows at Sligo Abbey
The six piece band will perform at dusk in the haunting 13th century Sligo Abbey, with their unique combination of musical styles, cultures and instruments. www.nocrows.net
 
Yeats International Summer School
The 56th Yeats International Summer School will run from the July 26th – August 7th.  Includes lectures, seminars and workshops.www.yeatssociety.com                                       
Tread Softly
This festival will be inspired by brothers William and Jack Yeats.  It will run alongside the expanded Yeats International Summer School. www.treadsoftly.ie.
 
Of Clay and Wattles Made
IT Sligo and The Model, Sligo are collaborating to celebrate Yeats’ dream haven – The Lake Isle of Innisfree.  The famous island will be a key theme to this celebratory weekend.  A temporary structure will be erected on the Island in a brief realisation of the poet’s dream.
 
Poet Laureates
On Saturday June 13th, international Poet Laureates will gather in Sligo to honour Yeats, who won the Nobel Prize in 1923. A unique poetry event, a first for Ireland and an appropriate way to celebrate one of the world’s finest poets.
