As an art form and mode of communication, spoken word is enjoying tremendous popularity and is a powerful and playful way to communicate on themes of social importance. Whether you think of yourself as a performance poet or a page poet, exploring spoken word can help you to learn how to deliver your work with verve and skill. In this workshop, we'll be generating new work and seeing how it lends itself to performance. We'll be looking at how well-known poets perform their work and responding to creative prompts in a fun and supportive atmosphere.
Our workshop host; Jessica Traynor teaches poetry, playwriting and creative writing courses with the Irish Writers Centre and Big Smoke Writing Factory. She has worked as Literary Manager of the Abbey Theatre, where she commissioned and developed new work by established and emerging playwrights for both stages. She is currently working as a freelance dramaturg on a number of projects in Irish Theatre.
This workshop is suitable for beginner writers, or poets and performers who'd like to explore their craft in more detail.
