Aminah Hughes launches her debut solo CD Blue Wooden Boat
Aminah is known for her intimately honest lyrics and an ethereal voice that has often been described as “beautifully haunting.” Renowned songwriter Shane Howard defines her as “celestial” while Aussie rock legend Robert James (GANGgajang/Yothu Yindi) cites her as “an intelligent and vocal woman of extraordinary musical talent (with) an unwavering commitment to storytelling.”
She has been a classical flautist, a composer, an actor and a radio DJ. She has had spoken-word pieces published on national compilation albums and facilitated several songwriting workshops around Australia and in England. She has performed at a number of festivals and venues in Australia and Europe, shared stages with Tommy Emmanuel, Ireland’s Mairtin O’Connor Trio, Aboriginal pioneer Jimmy Little, GANGgajang and the Sydney Youth Orchestra, toured with cross-cultural singing group Yirra Yaakin Yowerliny and supported Canada’s The Wailin Jennys and Aussie rock legend Robert James. In 2009 she formed an alliance with renowned Irish traditional and blues musician, Seamie O’Dowd, with whom she has played well received shows in Ireland, Australia and the U.K.
Aminah will be joined on stage by Seamie O’Dowd, Anna Houston and friends to present a magical evening of songs from the album Blue Wooden Boat.
An intimate full moon event not to be missed.
