SHANE FILAN IS “DOING IT FOR DONAL”! 

 

SHANE’S HOMECOMING GIG TO HELP A LOCAL BOY WITH A RARE CHILDREN’S CANCER 

 

Knocknarea Area, Sligo – 5th December 2014 

 

Shane Filan and his band will be performing their final gig for their highly successful current “You & Me” tour back in Shane’s home town, for a local boy, Donal Parsons, who is currently fighting Neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive cancer. 

 

Shane Filan and his family have been a great support to Donal’s parents during Donal’s long and difficult treatment and they are delighted to announce that Shane will be performing the final date of his current “You & Me” tour back in his home town, Sligo. Shane is very generously donating this performance to the Donal Parsons Trust. 

 

"I am thrilled to announce that the You and Me tour 2014 will finish in the Knocknarea Arena Sligo on Friday December 5th with all the proceeds from the night going to the Donal Parsons Trust. Sligo has given Donal and his parents Jane and Andy huge support this year and from one Sligo family to another I am just happy to be able to play some small role in trying to get to that target of €250k which will enable Donal get the vital treatment he needs for his very rare form of cancer Neuroblastoma. It’s my first solo concert in Sligo and I am bringing my full production band and crew to kickstart the festive season and raise much needed funds to give Donal a fighting chance of beating his cancer", said Shane. 

 

Donal Parsons is a seven year old boy who lives in Strandhill, Country Sligo, Ireland with his big brother James, his mum Jane, his dad Andy and Nelly, his Springer Spaniel. In October 2013, Donal was diagnosed with Stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma, a very rare children's cancer. Donal is currently receiving 18 months of intensive treatment at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, Dublin. Even through Donal has responded well to treatment so far, there is a very high change that this aggressive cancer will relapse and if it does, the current treatments available in Ireland are limited. The Donal Parsons Trust has been set up to raise money to so that Donal can access any viable treatments available outside of Ireland to prevent relapse and to pay for treatments if Donal does relapse. The Trust may also assist Donal and his family during his treatment. 

 

Shane is one of the most recognisable voices that Ireland has ever produced. He released his debut solo album ‘You & Me’ in November last year featuring the hit singles ‘Everything To Me’, ‘About You’ and ‘Knee Deep In My Heart’. Shane and his band are currently on an extensive tour of Asia, the UK and Ireland. This final tour gig in Sligo will be a very special opportunity for fans, friends and family to welcome Shane back to his home town.
